The Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Mr. David
Parradang, has announced that all borders initially scheduled to be
opened at midnight (Sunday) today, will now be reopened at noon today
March 29, following the extension of voting by the Independent Electoral
Commission (INEC).
This announcement was contained in a statement made available to
LEADERSHIP by the NIS spokesman, Mr. Chukwuemeka Obua, via telephone.
The statement explained that the decision by government to reverse
the initial directive by twelve hours, was to allow the Nigerian masses
the right to vote.
The decision was arrived at Saturday night, following hiccups
associated with Saturday’s presidential and national assembly polls.
Although Parradang hailed the peaceful conduct of the electorate
during Saturday’s elections, he urged them to maintain the peace during
today’s elections.
